Debit Card Policies

We accept Visa Debit cards and Mastercard Debit cards. We don¿t accept Maestro, Electron or any pre-paid cards, even if they carry the Visa or Mastercard logo.


Drivers License

Must be issued at least 12 months prior to rental.
Avis Greece can accept a National Driving License if the driver holds a valid driving license from: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Holland, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland & United Kingdom.

Avis Prestige Fleet

The driving license must be issued:

1 year for groups A, B, C, D, F, G, K, N, O
5 years for all other car groups.


Public Liability and Property Damage

Public liability insurance is in accordance with the insurance laws of the country.  Customer may inquire at the time of rental for additional information of the benefits, conditions and acceptance.

Note: Some credit cards provide insurance coverage, with certain limitations, as a benefit of using the card to rent vehicles.  The customer is advised to contact the card issuer before the rental.  Any waiver must be discussed directly with the location upon arrival.


Additional Fees

After Hours Information:
If the renter wants to pick-up a car during out of office hours, he must request this at the time of reservation. The charge for out of hours service is EUR 23 excluding VAT.

Prestige Fleet
If the renter wants to pick-up a car during out of office hours, he must request this at the time of reservation. The charge for out of hours service is EUR 30 excluding VAT.

Outside Office Hours Fee For Avis Prestige Rentals
There is a 30.00 EUR fee excl. VAT for rentals outside office hours or when the location is closed.


Age Requirements

At this location the minimum age is 21 for all car groups, except for the following: minimum age is 25 for car groups L and P.  A Young Driver fee will apply to drivers between the ages of 21 and 24.  The Young Driver fee of 10.00 EUR per day per driver, with a maximum 10 day fee of 100.00 EUR per rental per driver. There is no upper age limit as long as there is a valid driving license.
For Avis Prestige renter and driver must be 21 years old for car group A, B and C and 25 years old for all other car groups.


Collecting and Returning Your Vehicle

The return of the car to a location different to the one of car pick up, is allowed with an extra charge.

Payment Options

A payment card (Visa, Euro/Master Card, Amex, Diners or Avis issued charge card) is required for all rentals. However, the renter doesn't need his or her credit card in order to make a booking online. We only request to know what type of credit card the renter is going to use at the actual time of rental.

Renter must use a payment card (credit or debit) at the time of rental in his or her own name.

The following cards are accepted forms of payment:

  •  Avis issued charge cards


We don't accept Maestro, Electron, any pre-paid cards even if they carry the Visa or Mastercard logo- or any other cards not listed above.

CREDIT or DEBIT CARD HOLD: The estimated amount of the rental plus up to 500 EUR will be authorized against the renter's credit/debit card at the time of rental. In case the Super Cover is purchased or included, the authorization will be the estimated amount of the rental plus up to 150 EUR. This amount will no longer be available for your immediate use and may take up to 14 days, depending on your bank, to become available. We will not be responsible for any returned check(s) or insufficient fund charges or bank fees related to this process.

Avis Prestige Fleet

A payment card is required for all rentals as a guarantee. For car group H two payment cards must be submitted, one of which must be a credit one. Cash is not allowed.

Please note that if you are permitted to take the vehicle outside of Greece, it is your responsibility to make sure you comply with legal requirements applicable in the relevant country/countries you travel in. 

Booking must be made at the Contact Center of Avis Greece (tel: +30 210 6879800, e-mail: contact@avis.gr).

There must be a written approval by Avis Greece at the start of the rental (not just by the booking process). 

The renter is obliged to return the car to Greece.

The driver must have the new type of driving license (in Latin characters).


Waiver and Protection Options

Damage Waiver

In most cases, Damage Waiver is provided with the vehicle as standard. If it is included, it will be stated on your Rental Agreement Form (and in your booking confirmation).

Damage Waiver reduces the amount you pay for each clearly separate incident of damage if the vehicle is damaged (or the amount you pay to replace any keys, accessories or vehicle documents that are lost, stolen or damaged).

The amount you pay for each clearly separate incident of damage will be the lower of a) the applicable cost payable under the Theft, Loss, and Damages Policy; or b) the excess stated on your Rental Agreement Form.

Normally between EUR 12.50 to EUR 30.00 per day (if not included as standard) If you rent the vehicle for more than 14 days, you will only be charged for a maximum of 14 days and get cover for the duration of your rental, up to 30 days.

Super Damage Waiver (SCDW)

An excess reduction product which reduces your damage waiver excess to zero.

Normally between EUR 15.00 to EUR 45.00 per day charged for a max 14 days to cover rental up to 30 days.

Theft Protection waiver (TP)

In most cases, Theft Protection is provided with the vehicle as standard. If it is included, it will be stated on your Rental Agreement Form (and in your booking confirmation).

Theft Protection waiver reduces the amount you pay if the vehicle is stolen during the rental period.

The amount you pay will be the lower of a) the applicable cost payable under the Theft, Loss, and Damages Policy; or b) the excess stated on your Rental Agreement Form.

Normally between EUR 4.50 to EUR 16.00 per day (if not included as standard) charged for a max 14 days to cover rental up to 30 days.

Super Theft Protection waiver (STP)

An excess reduction product which reduces your theft protection excess to zero on cars.

Included in super collision damage waiver

Windscreen protection

This protection reduces the amount you pay to zero if the windscreen is damaged while you’re renting the vehicle. Having windscreen protection also means you won’t pay a Damage/Loss/Repair Processing Fee.

Personal Accident Insurance (PAI)

Covers the driver of the vehicle in the event of an accident. Personal Accident Insurance provides the following benefits:

  • A maximum of EUR 50,000.00 in the event of death and permanent total or partial disability
  • A maximum of EUR 2,000.00 towards emergency medical expenses related directly to the accident.


Personal Accident Insurance is underwritten by Allianz European Reliance.

Super Personal Accident Insurance (SPAI)


Covers the driver of the vehicle in the event of an accident. Super Personal Accident Insurance provides the following benefits:

  • A maximum of EUR 80,000.00 in the event of death
  • A maximum of EUR 100,000.00 in the event of permanent total or partial disability
  • A maximum of EUR 5,000.00 towards emergency medical expenses related directly to the accident


Super Personal Accident Insurance is underwritten by Allianz European Reliance.

Roadside Assistance Plus

What's covered?

  • Lockout Service: Budget will assist the driver gain entry when keys are locked inside the vehicle or when he has lost the keys.
  • Flat Battery: If the vehicle experiences battery failure, Budget will provide a jump start.
  • Tyre assistance: Replacement of a flat or damaged tyre with the spare, or get the car towed to the nearest service facility
  • Damage caused while Budget car was on board ship.


What's not covered?

  • Cost for replacement of the keys in case of loss.
  • Battery damage caused intentionally or by negligence.
  • Tyre damage caused intentionally, by negligence or by driving in non-permitted areas as of rental agreement's terms and conditions.
  • Fuel costs and refuelling service fee, in case of fuel delivery.
